Black Box is a Soul-Jazz inspired Hip-Hop release written by British singer-songwriter Melody Myla. The vinyl-only album features Melody's truth-resonating lyrics, laid beautifully over experimental crackly beats, produced by Melbourne beat-smith Tarnay.
Melody's soft vocal weaves effortlessly across the whole album, honing in on and instantly grounding the listener. Although sounding delicate, her lyrics contain powerfully confronting, often deeper underlying messages.
Black Box covers themes of addiction, betrayal and our unhealthy relationships with technology. It's an ode to dusty vinyl diggers and a throw-back to a simpler time, pre-smart phones. The whole project was pieced together carefully in Melbourne, with the help of guest artists like Class A, One-Sixth, Joe Snow and more.
Outside of her new record, Melody's voice can be heard on countless releases. She carries an accomplished career and discography, collaborating with cutting edge beat-makers and producers from all corners of the globe.
